Out and About: How Bazar
by Anna Buettner, LA
One of my favorite things to do in Gainesville is explore new outdoor markets and events. There are so many kinds, such as farmers markets, vintage markets, food truck rallies, and even live music performances. My favorite though, is The How Bazar, which I went to with my friend 2 weekends ago. Located Downtown, they had so many cool booths to visit that sold things like pottery, paintings, vintage clothes, vinyl records, baked goods, and jewelry. There was even one person selling earrings and necklaces made out of real animal bones! In addition to all of the cool booths selling things, there were people doing aerial acrobatics (when you do flips and tricks in the air), DJs playing music, people walking on stilts, and many different food trucks to try. My friend and I got hungry towards the end, so we decided to go to a nearby restaurant called Boca Fiesta. Here, they serve many different Mexican dishes, but probably the most surprising thing they sell is alligator! You can try it in tacos, bowls, burritos, or just on its own as
nuggets. I would really recommend this restaurant, even if you don’t want to try gator, because it is just so tasty! Overall, we had such a fun time at this market and it is a really great experience if you want to see art, fashion, and culture in the heart of Gainesville. The How Bazar Market happens bimonthly and you can follow them on Instagram or Twitter to see when the next one will take place.

Backpacks: Please do not leave backpacks or any of your belongings in the hallway or in classrooms. When you leave your things alone, they might get taken.
Returning Student Survey: The Fall 2022 semesters ends in 5 short weeks, so it is time to think about what you will do for the Spring 2023 semester. We know that planning for the next semester may be difficult, but we are asking you to tell us your plan for next semester. All students must complete the Returning Student Survey in myELI by Friday, November 18. Please do the survey even if you are not yet 100% sure of your plans. Please tell us what you think you will do. You can change your answer later if needed.
Check your I20s: If your I-20 is expiring soon, make an appointment with Daryl in MAT 223 to renew your I-20 before it expires.
Financial Guarantees for Spring: Dear scholarship students, we hope to see you again in the Spring! Therefore, we have sent you an early reminder to request your new financial guarantee letter for the Spring semester, if you plan to return. Most of your financial guarantees will expire this December, which means that you will need to submit a new financial guarantee by the tuition deadline of January 26th for the Spring C semester to avoid owing a late fee. If you need an enrollment letter or if you have any questions, please email Jennifer Vann at jvann@eli.ufl.edu.
Student Voices: Don’t forget to send your original writing to Student Voices so that the ELI can celebrate your writing. You can submit any of your work that you wish to see published. It can be from any class or something you have written on your own, but ask your teachers for help editing! You can email it to Olga Moody (omoody@ufl.edu) or to your teacher. Manners and Culture
Q: What is Veterans Day?
A: A veteran is a person who has served in the military. Veterans Day is a holiday in honor of people who have served in the US military. In Gainesville, there is a big celebration at Kanapaha Park, which includes skydivers, live music, helicopter displays, the UF Drill Team demonstration, and multiple patriotic ceremonies. On Veterans Day, many restaurants and businesses will give free meals or services to veterans to thank them for their military service. It is a national holiday, so many national, state, county, and city services will be closed like the US Postal Service and trash collection. The RTS bus service will be reduced to the holiday routes.
