About Us

Welcome!

The English Language Institute invites you to learn about our program. The University of Florida ELI was established in 1954 and was a founding member of UCIEP and FIEC. For over 70 years we have helped students from over 150 places of origin improve their English and learn about U.S. university culture.

Our administration and faculty all hold Master’s or Doctoral degrees and have made significant service contributions to the English language-learning field by serving as external site reviewers for English Language Programs, by serving as Fulbright Scholars, by presenting at conferences, and via leadership positions at EnglishUSA, FAIE, NAFSA, Study Florida, TESOL, and UCIEP.

We offer English instruction that prepares you for using English in an academic or professional context as well as the culture that is all around you. Learn the language, live the culture, and love the Gators!
