Out and About: Keeping Busy

When you think about quarantine being alone to limit disease , you think about a boring day in your home doing nothing, but for that reason I tried to do something different and changed my routine. daily activities What did I do? I started working out in my garage because it helps you to be energetic the whole day and also if you are in a bad mood emotions like happy or sad it can change your mind about everthing and you start to be a productive person. It is important to know this activity does not just help your mental health, it helps you to keep in shape fit , and this is really hard to do if you are in your bed sleeping. I also need to say thanks to the sports like soccer, basketball, tennis and Formula 1 A car race because when I do not have anything to do, I just turn on my TV and start watching the games. This is one of my best things to do. I usually did that before quarantine, but now of course I have more time to do it.

Notes from the Office
New Class:
- INTERNATIONAL TOEFL (internet based test- iBT)
- October 26 -December 11
- Cost: $665
This course is for students who place into high-intermediate or higher reading and writing classes. The course meets after core regular courses, 5 hours a week synchronously in real time via Zoom. The purpose of this class is to enable students to become familiar with the design of the TOEFL iBT. The course will identify language points that are most commonly tested in the reading, listening, speaking, and writing sections of the test. Exercises will be similar in format to those on the TOEFL iBT and practice tests will be given periodically.
This course is meant to familiarize students with the test format. If you are focusing on your level and language ability, all our ELI classes help to prepare you for the TOEFL exam.
International Education Week: Can you do a cultural dance, prepare traditional food from your country, play music or sing a song, or make a presentation about your country and culture? The ELI needs students to feature on our YouTube page for International Education Week in November. Email Christine Voigt (christinevoigt@ufl.edu) if you would like to make a video to represent your country.

Manners and Culture
Q: What are the rules for talking to other students on WhatsApp?
A: WhatsApp is a great way for students to chat and discuss assignments. However, be careful to follow some basic rules to make the WhatsApp experience good for everyone:
- Only use WhatsApp for the purpose of the group. If the group is for GM50 class, then asking about the homework for GM50 is great, but asking someone for the homework of LS60 is not. For a class WhatsApp, do not post memes funny images shared on social media , political messages core ideas from a government or political party , etc. that are not class assignments.
- Do not audio call or video call students on WhatsApp without asking for permission. You might be calling at an inappropriate time bad time . Also, for classroom etiquette behavior , we do not typically make phone or video calls if we are not good friends with the other student.
- If you are chatting with only one person, switch to email or personal chat. Then you are not bothering the entire group with your individual chat.
- If you find yourself asking for help over and over, email your teacher instead of the WhatsApp group.
