Out and About: Cochabamba, Bolivia

My hometown is an amazing place. My hometown is called Cochabamba. Firstly, we have to the biggest statue of Christ in the world. Also, there are a lot of attractions where we can go all the time like Pairumani and Tunari Park. In addition, We have a lot of amazing traditional plates like Pique Macho, Chicharron, Silpancho. We can eat all time because we can find food anywhere in the city 24/7. The street food is popular in Cochabamba because there are many food trucks. Finally but not less important, we have a lot of traditional dance like Tinku, Caporales, and Saya. Cochabamba is the best city where you can go to visit and enjoy any time of the year.

COVID-19 Requirements: Face-to-face students, this week you must do the weekly COVID-19 screening AND a saliva test. If you got a test last week, that does not count for this week. You must follow the schedule below with the rest of the ELI students. Everyone is required to do a test this week.

Student Voices: We love to see our students writing, but more than that, we like to see the writing in print. Every semester, we take your writing and publish it in Student Voices. Past submissions have included paragraphs, essays, creative stories, recipes, letters, obituaries, poetry, creative stories, class projects, and other interesting works on a variety of topics. I encourage you to submit anything of your work that you wish to see published. It can be from any class or something you have written on your own, but ask your teachers for help editing! You can email it to Olga Moody (omoody@ufl.edu) or to your teacher. Please include your name and class on your submission. The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 2nd.

Grammar
Question:
Why do you listen to someone but you look at them? Why do you go to the University, but your class is at the University?
Answer:
Prepositions have many different uses, and they can be very confusing! Here are the rules that help answer your questions:
- One group of verbs + prepositions shows social actions. Look at these examples:
- I listen to my teacher every day. (The preposition “to” emphasizes a receptive action.)
- I look at the textbook every day. (The preposition “at” emphasizes an action you take towards an object or person.)
- Directional vs. Locational
- I am going to the University. (The preposition “to” emphasizes your movement from one place to another.)
- My class is at the University. (The preposition “at” emphasizes the stationary location of the class.)
