Intensive English Program
In the ELI, you can be immersed in academic and informal English in a vibrant university community supported by our teachers and Language Assistants to help reach your academic or career goals. The Intensive English Program (IEP) has three core academic English courses: Reading/Writing, Grammar, and Listening/Speaking. There are six levels of proficiency from beginner to advanced. The IEP is intended for full-time F1 students and meets for an intensive 23 hours per week. The Intensive English Program at the ELI is accredited by CEA.
Special Programs
Customized programs for groups are available at the ELI. For a personalized quote, email StudyEnglish@eli.ufl.edu. Short Term English Program (STEP) online courses are available for special program groups.
International Graduate Student Support
Academic Writing Support for International Graduate Students
Scholarly Writing is a non-credit, six-week course for international graduate students, Post-docs, and Visiting Scholars currently enrolled in or working at University of Florida. The course offers an in-depth examination of common academic genres and practice within these genres. For more information, contact Jen Ramos.
International Teaching Assistant Support (EAP 5836 & SPEAK)
EAP 5836 is a credit-bearing class that offers language and culture support for international teaching assistants (ITAs) in their first semester of teaching at University of Florida. The course is required for ITAs who scored 23-27 on the TOEFL iBT (or 45-50 on the SPEAK). SPEAK is an English language proficiency test. The ELI will offer the SPEAK when TOEFL iBT scores are not available or current. For more information, contact Maya Shastri.
